Cantina Battiati
Cantina Battiati
Cantina Battiati is a young and small company born from the passion of Francesco Battiati, great grandson of “Don” Stefano Laurenzano who bought the land by planting a vineyard already in 1910. Later, Dr. Salvatore Battiati acquired the entire vineyard of his grandfather, taking over the years the parts of the same property already shared among the legitimate heirs, thus managing to keep alive both the memory of Don Stefano and the family tradition.
Since then in the district of Piano Daini in Solicchiata, one of the seven hamlets of Castiglione di Sicilia particularly suited for the cultivation of vines, for generations are cultivated only native varieties of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, in total respect of the terroir.
Our vineyard is located about 650 meters above sea level, in a territory characterized by the highest active volcano in Europe that gives great qualities to its fruits and wine in particular, giving an incomparable minerality and flavor; The strong temperature variations also determine an elegance that makes it unique worldwide.
Attentive to the values of tradition and quality, our vines find the maximum expression of “verticality” in the ancient “sapling” manual cultivation that allows them to push the root system in depth and come into contact with all the layers of the soil.
No use of herbicides or pesticides only green copper and sulfur, so much work and an infinite joy in still being able to work the ancient shoots planted by wise and experienced hands of yesteryear.
