Cantina Malopasso
Cantina Malopasso
Cantina Malopasso is located at Zafferana Etnea on the east side of Etna overlooking the sea. We cultivate, using the “alberello” technique, an ancient grapevine of more than 80 years old. The earth is sand-like of volcanic origin and terraced with small lava stone walls.
Etna’s ancient technique of terracing, the outcome of generations of agricultural farming, which limits and even excludes automated processing of wine making, have been eliminated creating serious changes to the agricultural landscapes of Mount Etna.
On the contrary, we are redeveloping and taking advantage of this territory because the plants so earth bound tell their own story. Furthermore; by using the natural grafting method and thanks to the richness of fruit trees pear, apple, peach, olive and cherry, all native varieties which increase the biodiversity, give a different fragrance to the Nerello Mascalese and the Carricante. Even so, we enjoy cultivating everything by hand so that the planting layout remains 80 x 80.
